willing to work with anybody to get this job done. none of us will get 100% of what we want. but nobody should want these cuts to go through, because the last thing our families can afford right now is pain imposed unnecessarily by partisan recklessness and ideological rigidity in washington. as i said at the state of the yoib, the american people have worked too hard for too long rebuilding from one crisis to see the elected officials cause another one. and it seems every three months there's some manufactured crisis. we've got more work to do than to just try to dig ourselves out of these self-inflicted wounds. while a plan to reduce our deficit has to be part of our agenda, we also have to remember deficit reduction alone is not an economic plan. we learned in the 1990s when bill clinton was president nothing shrinks the deficit dpaster than a growing economy that creates good, middle class jobs. that should be our driving focus, making america a magnet for good jobs, ewinning how people with the skills required to fill those jobs. making sure their hard work leads to a decent living

been hurt and a lot of different numbers have been coming to us from different russian agencies over the course of the day and a number of people who are injured in this incident, but they all have one thing in common, they keep going up. as you say, the total number of injured is now close to 1,000. there's how many people they say, between 30 and 100 have been treated in hospital and a smaller number, less than ten we are told are said to be in grave condition. fortunately for all the drama, for all the sheer terrifying elements to all of this, the damage although widespread is not significant. it is largely broken glass. the people that were showered in broken glass as they were struck by the sonic booms that most of the injuries are not more serious than simple cuts and scratches. >> unbelievable. phil black reporting live from moscow. let's talk more about the piece of meteor itself, because indra petersons, please help us understand this. as you look at this thing, it clearly is on fire when it enters the earth's atmosphere. am i right? >> absolutely. i definitely wanted to sta

africa. we've got just a few seconds for our "end point" of the morning. start for us, chris, what is your takeaway of the day? >> my big takeaway is hero worship and that's what you have with oscar pistorius, we put this guy on a pedestal, he might not have been the best guy off the field but he was a guy who was very good at what he did and so we kind of ignored a lot of the early warning signs here and also on a personal note i want to wish my dad a happy birthday. >> oh, very sweet. the fact that he is a hero in south africa, will that play a role in what kind of a sentence, if any, he gets and what kind of bail, if any, he gets? >> i think we're ahead of the game when we talk about sentence. we're only at bail and -- >> says the defense attorney. carry on, counselor. >> thank you. but my takeaway from this is whatever kind of case it may be, when it involves criminal law in a prosecution, whether it's in south africa or the united states we can't lose sight of the most important principles, presumption of innocence, burp and reasonab burden of proof and reasonable doubt. there

eerie. robin curnow joins us now. we hear pistorius may have feared someone breaking into the house and that's what happened. were there signs that reeva had planned to stay for the night? >> reporter: just to go back to that, i've heard that last message from her over and over again in the last 24 hours, and it still gives me the chills. it's just so sad, isn't it? but in terms of what she was planning to do that night, it seems, according to an official close to the investigation, that she was going to be at her boyfriend's house spending the night. they've apparently foupd her overnight bag as well as her ipad in the room. so that in a way does sort of change that initial speculation that oscar had been surprised. perhaps she had snuck in for a valentine's surprise, and that's why he had shot her. it was a terrible mistake. she still don't know what the details are, what the context is. why shoot somebody through a closed bathroom door? still no real understanding of the motive behind that. i think it's this confusion and the sense of unanswered questions that have not just the f

. pistorius' bail hearing is over for the day. cnn's robyn curnow joins us with more. good morning, robyn. >> reporter: good morning. and it was that testimony, wasn't it, it was those words, it was that explanation that people have been waiting for since valentine's day, perhaps that small explanation at least allowing some south africans to hold onto hope that their icon was, indeed, telling the truth, that he thought that she was a burglar, that this was a terrible misunderstanding. this affidavit here that i'm holding in my hand paints a very emotional, sad, tragic picture of what happened to oscar, he says, that night. he didn't have his prosthetic legs on. he was scared, he was terrified, and reeva was in the toilet, which was apparently a separate room from the bathroom, and we did hear the state saying earlier on that it was just over a meter wide by a meter wide, and so she must have been terrified because these bullets were coming in this small space. there's nowhere she could have gone. whether or not he killed her deliberately as the state argues it was premeditated or he argu
